After a rewarding 50-year career in financial services—as a CPA, CFP, and registered investment advisor—I finally retired. Early on, I was told that I wasn’t hired to be comfortable, and well, isn’t that the truth? It’s called work for a reason! Though I had success in my career, I realized I needed something more fulfilling outside of the office; something that could relieve the stress of the day-to-day grind.

 

That’s when I found woodworking.

I set up a shop, gathered tools, and started making all kinds of wooden toys: monster trucks, cars, airplanes, trains, dinosaurs, rocking horses, treasure chests—anything I thought would bring a smile to a child’s face. Around Christmas, I’d donate these toys to charities, knowing they’d bring a bit of joy to kids who needed it most.

Many of these early projects came from patterns I’d buy, but I soon realized that designing my own pieces gave me the most satisfaction. I began creating custom treasure chests, unique wooden cars, and eventually, my own game: Bead Battle™.

 

It's been a fulfilling journey, and I’ve loved every moment of it!
